LightPlay Creation's Painting Process
Image:
STEP 1: CHOOSE A SUBJECT - Find someone or something that you love and find beautiful, or if you prefer, find a goal, problem or issue that you are passionate about.

STEP 2: FIND YOUR VISION
- Close your eyes and breathe. Concentrate on the one thing that you feel the most passionate about and create a visual representation in your mind's eye that both exemplifies and expresses your connection to this subject. Crystallize your inner vision in your mind by asking your higher-self for greater clarity and detail.

Step 3: PICK THE IDEAL MEDIUM - Open your eyes, breathe, and try to recreate your idea with whatever medium and material will best suit your vision. You could represent and express this through photography, maybe a drawing or a painting, possibly sculpture or writing, even a song or performance. Whichever medium you choose, make sure it inspires you!

Step 4: CREATE A COMPOSITION - You should always keep most of your focus on the desired result; your chosen outcome. This desired result is the ideal experience that you will have as well as the finished product. If the process leads you to where you want to be, then the art appreciator will hopefully experience a similar result as well. Build the big picture with large overall generalities first. A strong foundation will work like a puzzle where every piece holds the
others together in place. Consider that a dynamic work of art will most often contain both positive and negative pieces.

Step 5: BUILDING YOUR VISION -
Work from large to small. In painting, I've found that it makes the most sense work from the furthest point to the closest. Build layer upon layer, upon layer and spend most of your time with the main subject. It is perfectly natural to have to rework an area several times before you get it right. Once the larger pieces are well formed, begin to revolve your focus back and forth from revising the big picture to creating the finer details.

Step 6: STEP BACK FROM YOUR WORK - Even when you may think you are done, it is always a good idea to walk away from what you've been doing and clear your mind. It helps to refresh your creativity by removing yourself from the hypnotic state of making art in order to regroup your thoughts and feelings, and to replenish your energy.

Step 7: FINISHING TOUCHES
- Once the balance feels right, the characters seem real, the colors please your eyes, the subjects, connections and
details all feel complete, this is when the final touches are necessary. Whatever that means for your work is up to you. It could be a glaze, varnish or a custom framing job. Either way, it is taking one or two steps further than you normally do that will ultimately fulfill you and please the art appreciator. Conversely, it is failing to make your finishing touches that will result in criticism from yourself and others, preventing some people from being able to fully engage in your artwork.

Step 8: ENJOY! - Please remember, the artist is typically his or her own worst critic, and the pleasure of your creation should always outweigh the pressure of your critique. It is sometimes emotionally necessary to create art for art's own sake. Enjoy the process, and for goodness sake, love your artwork! Be proud of yourself because you deserve it.
